Privacy Policy

How Mend handles your data — in plain English. Your licenses sync through your Apple iCloud, and we never sell your data or use it for ads.

Mend is a fishing-license app made by Rockchuck LLC(“Rockchuck,” “we,” or “us”). Mend stores your fishing licenses, keeps their details organized, and reminds you before they expire.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with — in plain English. By using Mend, you agree to what’s described here.

The short version

  • Your license data is stored in Apple iCloud (CloudKit), tied to your Apple ID.
  • If you sign in with Apple, we collect your email address (including Private Relay addresses), your name (from the first sign-in grant), and an internal account ID linked to your Apple ID. We use these to back up your wallet and send you transactional emails (like a welcome and new-state notifications).
  • We collect which states and issuers your licenses are from (for example, “Wyoming” or “Yellowstone NP”), linked to your account ID, so we can understand where anglers fish most and improve coverage. We do not collect license numbers, expiration dates, or other license-field details for analytics.
  • When you add a license, we send the license image to Anthropic’s Claude service to read and organize the details automatically. Under Anthropic’s business terms, that data isn’t used to train AI models.
  • We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising across other apps. No third-party analytics SDKs or ad networks are in the app.
  • You can delete your account anytime from the app’s Settings screen. This wipes your Postgres-stored data immediately and revokes your Apple sign-in token.

That’s the gist. The sections below fill in the details.

What we collect

Things you add.When you save a license in Mend, we handle whatever it contains — which can include your name, date of birth, address, license or permit number, the issuing state, the license type, and the issue and expiration dates. You decide what goes in. This data is stored in your Apple iCloud (CloudKit) and on your device only — it is not sent to our servers.

Account info (when you sign in with Apple). If you choose to sign in with Apple to back up your wallet:

  • Email address. The email Apple shares with us — either your real address or an Apple Private Relay address if you chose “Hide My Email.” We use this to send welcome and new-state transactional emails. We never use it for marketing or share it with ad networks.
  • Name. Your given and family name, from the first Sign in with Apple grant. Apple provides this only once. We store it to personalize transactional emails. Existing accounts where Apple didn’t provide a name remain nameless — we have no way to retrieve it after the first grant.
  • Account ID. An internal UUID we generate and link to your Apple ID. This is how we tie your backup, events, and email sends together server-side without storing your Apple ID directly.

License-jurisdiction analytics.When you save a license (and when you sign in for the first time), we record which state or issuer the license belongs to — for example, “Wyoming,” “Montana,” or “Yellowstone NP.” This event is linked to your account ID. We use this to understand where anglers fish most and to prioritize coverage improvements. We do not record license numbers, expiration dates, or other license details for this purpose.

Subscription info. Mend’s subscription is bought through the App Store, and Apple handles the payment— we never see your card details. We only learn whether your subscription is active.

How we use it

We use this information to:

  • Run and maintain the app,
  • Read and organize your license details automatically (via Anthropic’s Claude),
  • Store and sync your licenses through iCloud,
  • Back up your wallet server-side when you sign in with Apple,
  • Send you transactional emails (welcome, new-state notifications),
  • Send you expiration reminders and other notifications (local, on-device — no server push),
  • Understand which states anglers use most and improve the app,
  • Manage subscriptions and help you when you reach out, and
  • Prevent abuse and comply with the law.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your data. We only share it in these ways:

Apple. Your licenses live in Apple iCloud (CloudKit), linked to your Apple ID, and Apple syncs them across your devices under Apple’s own privacy policy. Apple also processes your subscription through the App Store and handles your Sign in with Apple credential.

Anthropic (the Claude service). When you add a license, the app sends the license image to Anthropic’s Claude API so we can automatically pull out the details (like the state, license type, and expiration date). Anthropic processes this for us under its Commercial Terms, which mean your data isn’t used to train Anthropic’s models and is kept only briefly. We tell Anthropic to use it only to do this job for us.

Resend (transactional email). We use Resend to deliver welcome and new-state emails. Resend receives your email address and name to send these messages. Resend is contractually barred from using this data for its own purposes. Emails are sent from the mend.fish domain.

Legal and safety. We may share information if the law requires it, to enforce our Terms, or to protect people from fraud, security threats, or harm.

Business changes. If Rockchuck is ever sold, merged, or reorganized, your information may transfer as part of that deal, still protected by this policy.

No ad tracking.We don’t sell your personal information or “share” it for cross-app targeted advertising as those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws. There are no third-party analytics SDKs or ad-network integrations in the app.

Where your data lives

Mend and its providers are based in the United States, and your data is processed here. Mend is meant for U.S. users. If you use it from elsewhere, that’s your call and you’re responsible for your local laws. Mend isn’t directed to people in the EEA or UK.

Account data (email, name, account ID, and license-jurisdiction events) is stored in a Neon Postgres database hosted on Vercel’s infrastructure in the United States.

How long we keep it

  • Licenses in iCloud: kept until you delete them in the app or remove them through your Apple ID.
  • Account data (email, name, account ID, jurisdiction events): kept until you delete your account from the app’s Settings screen. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
  • Data sent to Anthropic: kept only for the brief processing period described above.
  • Transactional email records: kept only as long as reasonably needed for send-tracking and support, then deleted or de-identified.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data and rely on the security of Apple, Vercel, and our other providers. That said, no app or service is 100% secure, so we can’t promise absolute security. Keeping your device and Apple ID secure is up to you.

Your choices and rights

In the app.You can view, edit, or delete your licenses anytime. You can delete your full account (email, name, account ID, and jurisdiction records) from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion wipes your server-side data immediately and revokes your Apple sign-in token. Local licenses on your device and their iCloud copies are deleted separately from the same Settings screen.

Notifications.Turn reminders on or off in your device settings. If you turn them off, you won’t get expiration reminders.

State privacy rights. Depending on where you live — including Utah, California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Texas, and other states — you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, and to opt out of its sale or targeted advertising (we don’t do either). To make a request, email us at privacy@mend.fish. We’ll verify your request as the law requires, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.

Children

Mend isn’t for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. The app and subscription are meant for adults. If you think a child gave us information, email privacy@mend.fishand we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy now and then. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above and, when it matters, give you a heads-up in the app. Using Mend after a change means you accept the update.
